Will TASCO 2 Be On The Road Soon ?

PICTURES AND CAPTIONS BY CHRIS EDWARDS

Sepember 1997 - My body, on my drive outside my house on the day I collected it, with some Jaguar wheels fitted. Note the modifications to the rear wheelarches made by the previous owner who was trying to make the body fit his chassis. I'm going to return the body to its original dimensions, and have modified the chassis to fit. I think this is the right way to go about it!

1998 - Rear view of chassis on a trailer going off to the welders for some modification so that it will match the planned wheelbase of the body.

November 1999 - Chassis and body out in the garden whilst I extended my garage from a 2 car to a 5 car garage which I built between April 1999 and November 2000. The garage is now full of 'project cars'. The Bitter takes up 3 spaces, and my Osella F1 car and my sons kit car project take up the rest, so I still don't have space to park my daily use cars !

June 2002 - Engine and gearbox in the chassis, but not wired up yet . The engine is a Renault 2.5ltr Turbo which I have modified, and it should give about 300hp. The Turbocharger has been moved from its normal location on the top of the engine ( it wouldn't have fitted under the body and the exhaust manifolds would have fouled the suspension turrets) to the front of the engine, behind the seats. This has involved lots of bracket making, and re-plumbing the oil and water and air supplies to the turbo and relocating the intercooler etc. Since taking this picture, the wiring has been done, and the engine now runs.

October 2002 - Steering column and rack fitted. Rear suspension wishbones and uprights fitted.

Rear view of TASCO 1 on display at the Museum of Road Transport, Coventry. This gives me constant inspiration, and is what I intend the final product will look like when I've finished! I intend to finish the chassis and mechanical work by early 2003, and then move onto the bodywork. I hope to have the car on the road in 2004.
